Tips for Enjoying Your Run – Cooling Towel

I discovered cooling towels on my first time running the Beaver Canyon 10K in Beaver Utah. I had just made my goal of a 10K in one hour and the last half mile was the hardest. They put a cooling towel over my neck after I crossed the finish line. “What is this?” was my first reaction. But quickly I realized what it was for. A cooling towel is typically made from a soft, absorbent material that retains water and provides a cooling effect when placed on the skin. Oh, how good a cooling towel feels after a long hard work out or run. It relieves the itching from the acid of your sweat and cools you. You may notice when you start exercising your face becomes blotchy and itchy. It’s the acid from your sweat. This will go away as you work out more. After a run I wet my cooling towel, ring it out, and hang it around my neck. I use the ends where the water starts to pool to dap my face. When my towel grows warmer, I take it off and fan it back and forth using evaporation to cool it down. I put it back over my neck and enjoy putting my face in it. There is nothing so refreshing as a cooling towel.
